i saw flattish petals and with lateral sepals seeming to be pointing back plus dorsal sepal not very triangular and not with bluntly pointed apex?

yes, I agree about plant height: its not a characteristics I would normally rely on solely to separate species. But in the field, its very noticeable how tall these Drosera are (and on quite slender stems but still erect). the other differences (colour; shape of bud; long v short indumentum on calyx) are also gradational and a bit subjective.
